Challenge

As designers tackling real-world problems with design thinking, we noticed a big gap in hands-on learning during our K-12 education. Aware that the education system has barely evolved, our mission was to introduce more practical learning methods that connect with real-life challenges and equip students with lasting knowledge and skills.

Approach

Our approach began with in-depth research, collaborating with teachers, and analyzing school curriculums to identify where we could integrate real-life scenarios into the learning process.

Insights:

  1. Abstract and Inapplicable Concepts: Students often lose interest in science classes that delve into abstract theories.

  2. The Enjoyment of Creation and Experimentation: Learning through building and prototyping—experimenting with ideas to solve problems—was a significantly more engaging and effective method of education.

  3. Universal Design Thinking: Design thinking methodologies can be taught across all ages, adaptable to various educational levels.

Little Makers emerged from developing a methodology tailored for schools, offering teachers design thinking training to enrich curriculum projects. Key to this initiative is 3D printing training for teachers, intended for them to then teach students how to bring their ideas to life through prototyping. This approach nurtures hands-on experimentation and creativity among students, making learning more engaging and impactful.
